Eastern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea

Even though Papua New Guinea has one of the lower human development index values outside of Africa, Papuans are no slouches in vexillology. Most of the flags of the provinces of Papua New Guinea are fairly nice. Lots include local fauna, like birds of paradise and simple, bright colors.

I don’t really have a bone to pick with the flag of Eastern Highlands Province (but the formerly cannibal residents may be picking some human bones.) I do want to draw attention to the guy in the center here. His name is Nokondi, and yes, he has one leg. Jealous? And that’s a coffee branch he’s carrying. Awesome.

  1. I thought that guy was cutting off his leg and then blood and leaves started spurting out. And I see eight more Stars of David that are on Israel’s flag; since when is Papua New Guinea a Jewish country?

  2. There will come a time that ‘the one leged demon the nokondi’ will be replaced by a dove. People of Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea are kind hearted, humble, generous and most are law abiding and the ‘dove’ will represent them very much.
