Lom, Bulgaria
The big problems here are tone and contrast. If you have to strain to see it, it’s a bad flag. Text in yellow is never recommended for legibility. But yellow text on a yellow-green backround is awful. Three different shades of green on the flag – not a good choice.

If Vorumaa was an example of how to do an animal flag well, Smyadovo is an example of how not to do it. When set in a verdant valley bisected by a babling stream, Smyadovo’s wild boar looks more like a fat sow, and does not inspire awe or fear in the way Vorumaa’s wolf rampant. In fact, if I were the boyar of a neighboring voivodship 300 years ago, I may think about taking up arms and invading.

No, flags with white backgrounds are not ideal for blogging. But I love this flag. It reminds me of the style of those late 1950s Bugs Bunny cartoons, in which an opera was sung. I don’t know much about Satovcha, but it looks like a nice place to live, with little houses tucked among the mixed boreal and deciduous forests. And for some reason, Cyrillic writing on a flag bothers me way less than anything in the Roman alphabet.
